However, when you dip the camera into the water, you see only a huge blurry water edge that overlaps everything above and below. Water appears to be too close to the camera lens, and therefore, it is out of focus. A special “hemisphere” is needed to avoid this this effect.
Here we see a thin water edge, and all objects above as well as below the water are in focus. The idea is quite simple and I couldn’t understand such high prices over the internet. So, I made such hemisphere at home and would like to show you how.
So we’ll need the following:
- A GoPro box (for about 10$ I got a separate one for this task, here is for Hero4)
- A box from CDs (we need just a round piece of plastic).
- A transparent decoration ball (from 0.5$ on Ali, I used the 13.5 cm one)
Then we cut holes for camera lens and a button in the base of CD box.
In my case the base fits perfectly to the ball.
Now it’s necessary to fill all possible holes with glue.
I did it with a glue pistol. By the way, the glue must be somewhat elastic.
No reason to save on glue, so I just covered the whole box and a hemisphere along their perimeter.
Connecting through Wi-Fi and it’s done!
Unfortunately, there is no warm sea by my house, so I had to simulate the tests : )
It is up to you: either to pay more than 80$ or to use your creativity and spend less than 20. Also there is no risk for the camera as it stays in the box.
